Modem Doctor

Way back when in February, 1999 in looking at Eight Ways to Improve Your Modem Modem Doctor came up as a solution for digging deep inside your modem. I'm pleased to say that this old standby (I first ran into it at least a decade ago) is still at the top of the list for diagnosing modem problems.

The software leads you through a step by step process of digging up information which includes COMM port settings and Windows COMM port registry settings. What's as good as the software is an excellent help file that will help you make sense of what it is you're seeing.

It even covers the obscure area of a loopback test which I haven't seen since the first COMM port diagnostic from IBM for the original PC (note that the loopback test requires a loopback adapter).

Worth checking out.
