So far, so good. A few broken parts that worked perfectly well in IIS 6.0 that just won't work with IIS 7.5 but nothing that's critical; my favorite web stats software that I've been using for about 10 years, the download search area and stuff like that.

Which is kinda weird as Microsoft's strong suite has always been supporting legacy code. Guess they finally realized it was hurting them overall.

I think I can rewrite it given enough time and I have a spare server locally as well as a copy of 2008 so I'll eventually throw that together and throw some frustration at it. Or not.

The only thing I've noticed, which may be something you mentioned, is the forum archives link which appears to gone to the great forum graveyard in the cloud. LOL.

And the old boards emoticons which sometimes I used  that were extra cute (like "barf") is gone also.

But all the current board stuff seems fine and dandy. Thumbs Up  Thumbs Up

Ah, yes, I decided not to press my luck and try and migrate the old forum software over plus it was pretty musty and I haven't gotten around to updating navigation.

Good catch on the icons, I'll see if I can hunt them down before the old server goes way, expect those were some custom icons I loaded.

Not sure. If I remember correctly (which the odds isn't too good), there were a few stock emoticons that came with the original discus. Most were ones you added from as you ran across them out yonder down the rabbit hole.

Thanks, I'll put it on the list, should be easy to find them.

A day of frustration as expected. Threw 2008 on the old server but no NIC and I couldn't figure out what chipset it had. Threw on Win2k and it told me, reinstalled 2008 but none of the drivers will work, the latest I can find are for Win2k.

Sigh, it is a 10 year old box.

I had the addresses of some of my faves saved, for fast posting, which was why I sometimes could post them here after the forum change. But I could never reach the page with all of them listed. (Clicking on most the links on the archives always resulted in a "not valid win32 something or other".

I tried using the "wayback" machine  a few times...but that page was too wayback for wayback to reach. LOL.

You probably access that a lot different than a regular user, but if it's any help the regular address was:

And a special problem for this box as it uses a NIC chipset thar there isn't a non-vendor driver for. Don't think it's gonna work out but at only 512mb of memory it's chugging to keep up with 2008 anyway. I have another box I can throw at it.

Wasn't a problem at all.

I guess the third time really is the charm. Tried the 2nd old server and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to boot from CD. I recall it was hinkey back in the day as I had to install an IDE card to drive the DVD drive as the integrated IDE interface only supported CD. Tried everything but no dice. Plus it had been unplugged for so long the BIOS had lost settings and I wasn't absolutely sure I had everything sorted out there.

So I threw it on the box I hope to use as a WHS upgrade one of these days if and when hard drive prices come down.

Worked fine. Have installed updates and I'll take a swing at publishing on it and using it for a test bed tomorrow.

I've enabled directory browsing on the old clipart folder and you should be able to grab anything there as well as preview it by clicking on the filename.

Fun to go through.

We could hop on the plane and be able to have coffee by noon!

Heehee - Through some quirk I got a PCNet-Online Forum Topic Reply Notification email this morning.  Took me to a single page of a thread from ancient history in 2008.  http://www.pcnet-online.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=214&PID=59451#59451
Maybe Don was fiddling with the archives early this morning?

Is it possible that it was a new message from a spammer? Had a bunch of those this morning (sigh).
