My ESET Personal firewall is blocking the HomeGroup feature in Windows 7. How do I fix it? - ESET Knowledgebase

But it never stayed fixed.

And "googling" for firewall blocking homegroup turned up the same questions for Comodo, McAfee, Trend Micro, etc.  It's why I went with MSE.

It looks to be one of those challenges that is workable with the right firewall settings or tweaks. I just didn't feel like fooling with it any longer.  Quite frankly....I don't really understand why it should be a problem.  It's Windows 7 for goodness sake. It seems like any AV made for Win7 at most would have a setup option:
"Do you use Homegroup? Check Yes or No"  And that, IMHO, ought to be that.
