Don't know why but I always boot into the live CD first. Our wireless printer hooked up with no problems. Nothing else much is hooked up besides a wireless mouse. Have not seen a wireless mouse or keyboard problem in any OS for quite a while, but of course they are never the latest and greatest device either.

The GLSlideshow screensaver is kinda fun as well, but to get the settings right you have to do a little tweaking first. Kinda messed up that they left the settings out of the screensaver menu. Seems people in general don't care much for screensavers, maight be a power saving thing.

Figured it out, Webilder does not like jpg files to have the extension .jpeg but batch renaming is not a problem.

Played with it some more tonight on the desktop. Same results. I even went so far as to create a Linux partition on Drive 0...the XP drive. Pinguy seems to ignore XP and concentrates on dual booting with Win7...which I don't want to do.
Looks like the only good move would be to pull the drives out, and stick a test drive in. Which is more bother than it's worth right now. (Unless I invest in some "hot swap" bays to make it easy. No biggie. I can still play with it from the LiveCD on the desktop. |

I did some cleaning on the Toshiba Pro laptop I use 99% of the time. And am imaging it now. I almost didn't...lack of patience. But I'd be real sad if I messed it up playing with Pinguy. With luck I won't bump the power cord again and have to start over. (Power cord on the combo eSata/USB drive. The plug isn't the most solid fit and doesn't handle any movement at all.)

It doesn't install alongside Windows 7 on my laptop either. http://forum.pinguyos.com/Thread-Cannot-Install-along-side-Windows-7 I'm tinkering with Gparted now. |

I'll tell you what...every now and then I look at some of the third-part ($$$) partitioning software since Symantec messed us Partition Magic. But usually only because I forget about Gparted. It's slick, fast...easy to use (IMHO) and.....FREE!

Looks like I need to find a tutorial on the manual setup options for a Linux install. Both a frustrating and disappointing evening.
Making a Linux partition, along with a swap partition, didn't do any good. At least in the "install alongside Win7" mode. I had hopes it would just automagically select the partitions I'd pre-made...but nope. Need to find me a tutorial I guess on the manual options. |

Sorry to be so slow to respond. Dad is not doing well so had to be in Birmingham for a few days. The hospital WIFI worked great for one night then slow as dialup the next day.
Not used to grub not recognizing multiple OS's on a hard drive. Have Pinguy, Bodhi and Salix all on my spare desktop and all on one drive, but Pinguy was installed first (It's the beta version of Pinguy). On my laptop there is Win7 and Linux Mint 10. (You always install Windows first.) After fiddling with many different installs of a variety of distros I quit having a separate home and boot partition. The swap partition is shared, most of the time, by all the distros on the disk. After setting up a root partition and adding a swap partition if one is not already there I go with the install. |

It's installing, on the Toshiba laptop, I think. Did some manual partitioning and took a chance.
Might be a while to find out. I saw an option to "import documents and settings" from Windows 7. I clicked it. Oh boy. It might be a loooong time. |

I may have been a little premature with my last remark of
![]() The install finished and I rebooted. Right back into Pinguy. I was expecting it to be the same as all my other Linux installs where Linux was added to the Win7 boot screen. But all I had was the Linux boot loader (Grub?). Anyhow...I play around with my GAG boot disk and booted into Windows7. All seems well. On subsequent boots I noticed that Windows 7 is included...as the very bottom option. I'm not sure if it was there originally of playing around with GAG added it. Regardless, I need to find the boot options and increase the time out when booting. I'm not sure how long it is...but it's too fast. (Don't have enough time to read all the different boot options.) |
