I got an e-flyer this morning advertising a Garmin GPS with lifetime map updates for $90.  My several years old Garmin wants $90 just to update the maps I have.  Obviously standalone GPS gadgets are having a bit of trouble competing with Smart Phones (that have built in GPS).

I probably ought to visit garmin.com to see if they've changed their policies re: update pricing.  Nope!  They still want $90 to update.  Why would I update when I could buy new with lifetime updates? Unhappy

Wow, that's great. I just got a warning on my Garmin that it was time for an update and I didn't check the price but when I signed up it was steep.

What model was the flyer for?

Yup, $50 for a one time, $90 something for the lifetime.

Unfortunately they didn't give away the handle even though they're charging for the blades.

Looks pretty good, especially as my current (which was a refurb) is having battery issue. Not a huge thing, I can plug it in but....

The smart phone GPS apps do work very well.  Seems like their best market would be factory installs in vehicles.
