Just in case anybody else here uses it...and through a discount/prescription program:
Lipitor will be generic and much cheaper soon - CBS News Saw a blurb last night on the news about it. Good news for my sweetie who was on it, but went to a generic after her mail-order folks (through her company insurance) raised their prices a while back. Which didn't make her doctor's very happy. (Can't remember the details. Something about Lipitor having added extra compounds and it worked much better, and safer, than other cholesterol lowering drugs.) But, they had raised their prices by about four-fold and my sweetie being the frugal person she is....... |

I'm eagerly waiting. My current med is VERY expensive and what with the extra stuff I had to buy when I had the surgery I busted my RX max for the year. The last refill was VERY painful.

Well, I know all the reasons they say: Pay for expensive R&D for new drugs, make a profit, government regulations...yada yada. But...I still have to wonder how much they could charge and still make a decent profit. That "typical 90% drop" in price after the patent runs seems excessive as all get out.
I wonder if any significant amount goes to help pay for the cheaper pills mandated by countries like Canada. Guess there's more coming up: Prices to fall on drugs, including Lipitor, Plavix | HeraldTribune.com |

Dunno but I know that bringing a new drug to market is more expensive than I can even imagine.

Longterm impact on sales of generic Lipitor still to be seen | Lubbock Online | Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
I was searching tonight. My sweetie called the local Walmart, where she had been getting Lipitor, to see if the price had come down. Nope. Probably not for "at least six months" they said. Not only do is gas higher here...so is Lipitor. Higher than in this story above, and considerably higher than the national average. |

Pluggers Which reminded me to update this post.
No idea exactly when, but the price finally did drop locally. At least at Walmart...for the generic version of Lipitor. Lipitor was either 165 or 265 a month...and a generic version is now $5 at Walmart. (Can't remember the pre-generic price for sure since my sweetie isn't awake yet to ask, and we never got it...just out of our price range.) |

My sweetie was given her antibiotic recently by Publix. Some drugs they give away for free, and also some other big chain stores. It was quite a surprise to me.
