Not for everyone, but man it is so cool!

Free 3g, wireless, very readable screen,  a variety of font sizes and formating, you can email docs to it using a variety of formats, play music in the background while you read, battery last for days, easy to turn pages with a tap, etc.

I'm impressed.  It basically does one thing and does it well.

Ah....now that you mention that....it's triggered a memory. You opted for the Touch or Touch 3G instead of the new Fire...

Shoot. I'd sure like to play with one (physically).  ROFL  I just thought...maybe next week while our plant is shutdown for Thanksgiving on Thursday and Friday.  Then I thought...whoa....I don't go anywhere near stores in the big city on the Friday after T-Day.

I'm pretty happy with this new toy so the urge to go out on Friday next week is not so strong.

Now, if my oldest should come home and want to go to Microcenter, I could be talked into it.

Just finished "Ghost in the Wires: My Adventures as the World's Most Wanted Hacker".  It was a fun read.  Got it using a Kindle gift card the girls gave me for Christmas.  Love how the Kindle ecosystem works.

Still do paper though.  Still haunt a favorite used bookstore with my youngest on occasion.  It's a store where people come who really love to read.  Even has a coffee shop if you want a good hot cup while you sit and read.

Sounds like you got a good deal on the Kindle....as in picking the right one. Just saw another less than complementary review a few days ago on the Fire.

Yep, the Fire seemed more like a low end tablet instead of a doc reader, and I wanted a doc reader.

I've never read it but I've grabbed it.

Left Behind. Kindle edition is free today + no shipping.

Also a good source of free/bargain Kindle stuff.

Left Behind. You know that a series don't you?

Hmm....the Pub.Sequence is more accurate. I think I have all except for the "prequels" that they stuck in.  I found them well written....capitulating.  I'd often read them in one or two nights with very little sleep. (Found them hard to put down.)

Yup, as I understand it this is the first. I've always been curious but just have gotten around to it but for 0.00 I figure it's not much of a gamble.

Very nice!  Thanks Don.  I'm like you on reading Left Behind.  Just never wanted to spend the money on them but was still curious.  I also subscribed to Pixel of Ink.

Interesting that of the 3 books they had listed today on their site, one was about $3 on the Kindle and about $10 on the Nook, The other two were not available on the Nook.

Karl - uh oh...  Based on your comments I'm in danger of being consumed again by another series.  Just went through that with the Harry Potter audio books.

I guess that Amazon is like WalMart and has more pricing power?

That's my guess too.  Seems like Amazon's Kindle hit the main stream in quick fashion.

I think I bought most of mine at Walmart...where they were a whole lot cheaper than at Christian bookstores.

By the time I finished the series though, I was having some thoughts about them. Kind of along the lines of how some folks take movies, other books, TV shows...almost for real.  And how folks a few thousand years didn't recognize the first Coming because it didn't happen the way they expected. Nor did the Messiah, from birth to death, fit their expectations and later demands.

There's a lot of obvious "supernatural" events in the series.  I just wondered how many folks may not recognize the second coming period if it doesn't fit somewhat close to the series descriptions.

Just some idle wonderings.

Looks like the Nook and B&N is getting ready to take a dirt nap.

Barnes & Noble may split off Nook business

Like the Sony e-reader the Nook isn't going to be a winner. Amazon is forgoing profits for critical mass and B&N just can't keep up regardless of the technology.
