My oldest is going home to Houston today. Glad to know she will be greeted by some nice warm weather. She's not enjoyed the cooler air we have had here in Georgia.

I was surprised to see that Houston has a lower high forecast for today than we have.

I just went down to the greenhouse and bought a dozen or 18 tomato plants. I got Early Girls - I've never tried them but they have a markedly shorter time to maturity (52-54 days) than the usual. I usually stick to Celebrity but we'll see. I think that little Jack Russell I'm boarding has been selectively digging up the potatoes I planted, the little *&%#!

I've finally decided on Roma. I've done both Celebrity and Early Girls, both are great, but the Roma's come up very well from seed.

I was sitting on the porch late this afternoon and there is a plant (wildflower or weed depending on your point of view) that is prolific here for about two or three weeks - view: http://www2.snapfish.com/snapfish/slideshow/AlbumID=8266271009/PictureID=447935151009/a=30990010_30990010/otsc=SHR/otsi=SPIClink/COBRAND_NAME=snapfish/
It's called Texas Squaw Weed. When I was much younger and my Dad was living and here on the place and if ever here during this time on leave I'd frantically rig up the brush cutter to the tractor and mow 'em down. My thinking was that they would impede the pasture grass from growing. Dad gently told me "Forget it. They will be gone in a couple of weeks". I paid no attention at the time and mowed away but now I say "Forget it. They will be gone in a couple of weeks." En masse in a field they are actually pretty and remind me in a small way of Rape fields (no offense, it's a plant grown for Canola oil) in England. Now those really were impressive.

Is it that vine thing that has a pinkflower? I've always wondered what that is.

Rape plant flower? Texas Squaw weed flower? Both quite yellow flowers. Rape plant - http://www.fourcowfarm.com/blog?tag=canola
Pink flowering vine - two come to mind and one is a possible pest, the Coral vine, the other one I do like is Mandevilla.

A bit more fragile than that. I call them "wild sweetpea".

Don't need no stinking new kind of stink bug! I have plenty of stink bugs and other kinds of pests that keep me busy or keep me discouraged depending upon who's winning the war.

I've seen a few here...not that particular type though. I steer pretty clear away as the first one I saw up close quite a few years back I wasn't sure what it was. So I leaned it and took off my glasses for an up-close look. Not going to do that again. (I swear it spit right in my eye. Maybe coincidence...but it sure burned.)

So encouraging - most lakes over here in East Texas are filling nicely. Lake Palestine is less than a foot below full and the others are slowly filling. As mentioned earlier most of the small lakes are full and the biggies are filling. My little stream is just below the surface ... my grandaughter went down to her favorite spot and dug down an inch or two and there was water. A few more rains and the little stream will be running at the headwaters again. (It never quit down stream, it just retreated slightly under the surface up this end.)

Excellent! Plus it looks like you're in the flash flood warning as well. Might do the trick.

Drilling down into our forecast a bit I see that both Bob and I have a 100% chance of rain tonight. Kinda rare to see that, guess they think it's going to be big.

Yep, they seem to be pretty confidant. Forecast for here for Today/Tonight/Tomorrow/Wed. is 60%/70%/100%/70%. Viva El Nino .... or whatever pattern we're in now.

Nothing but brief showers yesterday and overnight. We did have an interesting one yesterday coming back from Austin; a good shower for probably 7-10 miles with the sun shining.

Heehee - I don't know where this came from but my childhood lore was that when the sun shone while it was raining meant "The Devil is beating his wife". ?? Whatever, when it happens it will always get your attention. Nothing here as yet, just enough humidity that it might as well be raining. There is activity north and into Ok and Ar.
