I really hate it when that happens (and it happens).  Maybe the "long lost acquaintance" was pulling your leg.  Maybe they didn't know you from Adam ... just a "comedian" who then went home and told his wife a "funny story"?
I think it best in those situations to start with "Hi, I'm Bob xxxx, long time no see".  Last time that happened to me in the store we chatted, parted company, I pushed my cart down a ways and thought "Thie is dumb".  So I turned around, caught up and asked who they were.  (but that's easier for an old Coot .... it's expected) Ermm

I've done that. Sometimes.  Usually though if my sweetie is with me, it's somebody she knows or is related to.  I swear (shame on me) whenever we go anywhere, she's either related to or knows half the people we run into.

And as I've mentioned, I was born an "old coot" as far as memory goes. It's always been a challenge, as in school with things like spelling, English "rules", math, et al.  And today with stuff like people names, names of parts (press parts, car parts, furniture parts...). Sigh.  But we make do. LOL

Recalculating

Shorter memory than..uh...

I'm starting to suspect some cartoonists have been reading our comments about memory. Or lack thereof. Thingamabob  And this is me at home, work or play. ROFL (Have to have a sense of humor.)

Oy...we sure our Pluggers. Even if we spell or alter our routine, he just seems to know if we are going out or running an errand someplace. He'll be waiting at the door before we get there.

That link is broken for me but I got there and that is downright funny!  And true probably.  (and I don't know what I'm doing up at this time of the day (night) except I have to be somewhere today ... always happens)

Here's a new link in case anybody wants to visit. (Using a different comic site. I try and use Yahoo because it has less ads and popups than gocomics....easier on slower connections.)

My first car did not have a heater, ...... or radio, ....... or a 2nd gear.  If it would start and haul me I was happy.  This was in the pre-inspection sticker era.

I had a radio and 2nd gear but the by design the heater didn't have a fan and there was no gas gauge ('59 VW).

Umpires between innings. Now that would be entertaining.

I can't blame an ump for trying to repay for all the flak they get.  Some times deserved as in this really bad call :  http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-07-28/pirates-loss-last-night-to-braves-ended-on-umpire-s-missed-call-mlb-says.html
Baseball still hangs on to the no replay rule altho this one would probably have changed the game outcome.  After 19 innings I'm sure he was ready to go home.

I'd seen the 19-innings headlines...but this is the first about the call. Rough. Maybe they'll have to go computerized with instant replays/reviews someday.  A sports official is one job I wouldn't want to have....pro or amateur. (Maybe especially amateur.)
