Went with a neighbor and a co-worker of his to the Southeast LinuxFest in Spartanburg, South Carolina. I've been wanting to go to it for the last 3 years. Just a spur of the moment thing and just drove up for Saturday.
We had a great time. My neighbor won a server. It was an older used rack mount, but he was pleased. Almost threw his back out carrying it to the car. Probably about 2 or 3 hundred people there. One talk got me interested in FreeNAS. Heard some talk about what Apple may do to help their security woes. The most enjoyable aspect was talking with the guys I went with. Also got some geeky T shirts. http://www.southeastlinuxfest.org/ |

Yep, I generally don't do spur of the moment stuff. It was a blast.
It wasn't a large part of it. Everything was centered around open source projects. There was one project where these guys were building computer controlled machines that were able to cut out 3-D objects from plastic. Their first project is to cut out parts to build larger machines which can do the same thing. It was really pretty amazing. There were some podcast guys there that gave away some tech books, two servers and and a nice laptop. Kind of funny, the restaurant there could not handle the rush of lunch orders, and their computer system went down. |

Beats me, but I'm sure one of the people attending the conference could have fixed it if they would have just asked.
