Unfortunately it's perforated metal.  Wouldn't hold water too well.

I happened to think of changing times yesterday at Walmart.  The big crates near the checkouts full of either cheap DVD's or music CDs.  It made me wonder how long before they go the way of LP's and cassette tapes.  I just had visions of Walmart ceasing to sell those...and perhaps just selling the downloadable/streaming versions.

'Sfunny how trends and fads come and go.  There used to be a ton of Mom & Pop vidio rental stores around, then Blockbuster came along and did 'em in, then Netflix, which has got BB on the mat.  Redbox seems to be doing fine altho I know no details.  I imagine the landscape will totally change in a few years.  There's streaming, and USPS troubles might mess with the DVD by mail thing and on and on ....

I guess it's time I dismantle my big 'ole C-band satellite dish out there.  Speaking of "big dish" I have a young neighbor up the road that turned a big dish into a gazebo.  I'm rambling.

Our local grocery store had a DVD rental machine thingie in it...a local/regional outfit. But I saw a few weeks ago it's gone.  Redbox (in front of the local Dollar General store) done them in. Redbox is only a buck...while the other one was something like $2.43.

I do Netflix the old fashioned way, one DVD at a time and am quite happy with them and their service.

We're still using Netflix, but only the streaming.

Every few months I get a "come back to us" email offer from Netflix. Somewhat tempting. Blockbuster is OK for us I guess, as infrequent as we watch movies, but they're sure not a Netflix.  We got a movie from them today...Saturday...that was scheduled to be here Thursday. Sadly...two or three days past their ETA is normal.

On the other hand, I shouldn't complain this time. I don't even know why they mailed us the next one (The Expendables 2) on the queue. I still have the last movie (Pieces of April).  My bad...I mailed it in...but it came back. I forgot to peel that change-of-address sticker off the envelope that the Post Office stuck on it.

HaHa  Just check my Blockbuster account. It doesn't show The Expendables 2 in my queue, as being mailed...nada.

Just dropped Soul Searcher off at the post office drive thru drop box this afternoon after work. (If this sounds like a post-it reminder note...it is...to myself.)

That service sounds like a loser to me for sure.  I'll stick with what I have.

Not looking good for Blockbuster. I dropped Must Love Dogs  off at the post office on my way to work Monday morning. Wednesday I got an email from them saying they had mailed Soul Searcher. Thursday I got another email...that they had received Must Love Dogs. (Kinda backwards...go figure.) Soul Searcher isn't her yet.  Impressed not.

Settled on Netfix when I discovered that you could notify them on the site about a damaged DVD and have them send you a replacement right away before you returned the damaged one.

I can't complain about my turnaround times with Netflix.  I mail one day they get it the next ... same goes for the reverse course, they mail out next in queue same day and I get it the following day.  The distribution center is Coppell which is a suburb of Dallas.  The USPS closing some of their mail centers may affect that come May but I hope not.

I got a notice (email) that they've shipped my first DVD. Will see how long it takes to get here.

Netflix provides a good enough service for us to keep on going with it for now.  Paired with just basic cable we get what we want for the most part.  I should probably give up the DVDs but there is enough of a selection to keep it interesting too.

This will be my last month on bb. The only reason I stuck around is because they have a few titles Netflix doesn't but it's taken far too long to get them, they are still frustratingly slow.

Still playing around with Blockbuster.

I decided to give their 30 day free trial a try today. The selection of movies locally is just blah...not much to choose from.

I almost didn't sign up for the trial. It was a challenge...slow pages...a time or two a blank page. But I did.  Adding movies to my queue was also awful "iffy". Sometimes the description would popup while hovering over a movie....sometimes not.  And an awful lot of blank pages after clicking on something. Next time I'll try IE instead of FF.

I might have to bite the bullet and give Netflix streaming a whirl. Dunno.

Wouldn't bother me if it took 2 or 3 days to send a CD.
