I went ahead and trimmed down the number of messages on a page to 20, don't know why I had them set so high, just never thought about it but if it turns out that 50 was the right number let me know and I can easily change it again, just two clicks.

Don - I'm thinking 20 is good, especially when catching up after missing a couple of days.

I sort of remember...but I think the admin (system) thread it was in is gone.  If I remember correctly...there originally wasn't very many posts on a page. And since it took dialup a while to load a new page...I think you upped the number of posts per page. I think.

Consider my  history - and from that standpoint It's just great.  I'm well pleased so far.  There are times when the pipe slows things down but mostly it's between 1 and 1.5Mbps.  As you can imagine, someone with such a low standard in the past this is magic.

Cool! Any problem with the bandwidth cap?

None at all.  I have two complete months of usage now and although I haven't been extravagant with videos I have done some viewing and both months used in the low 2Gb range of the 5Gb allowed on this plan.

Excellent! Glad you finally found a solution. My electrician was telling me about something he used which sounds like the same thing; Clearwire if memory serves. He's crazy about it.

ROFL.  "Beat a dead horse" is a good name for this thread...especially considering my location and the Amish population.

We had dinner with some old friends yesterday who live in the country about 5 or 6 miles from town. He had lots of tales to tell about his phone (wired and wireless) experiences plus internet experiences (dialup...that thing you now how Bob, and DSL).

But anyhow...he's been told that the growing Amish population in our area is just one reason they (telcos) are not planning on doing much of anything except keep patching existing lines.  Great.

We had to leave and I didn't have time to finish the story, but since we're back now. LOL

Randy is 72, retired, and a very outgoing fellow. A couple of times recently when he had telephone problems he just happened to see somebody working on telephone junction boxes out along country roads. So...he stopped and talked with them.  The last time was when our church lines all went dead. The repairman, an older guy from Ohio (independent contractor) told him....off the record of course...that the rural lines in this area were installed about 30 years ago and are in horrible shape. But they have no intention of replacing them...just patch them. Partly due to wireless phones. And in this area, because of the Amish who buy up more and more farms...and they don't use land lines.

After hearing how the repair guy had to follow miles of lines, using a pulse generator in order to find enough good and unused lines to hob-nob it together...it's no wonder country dialup users have such a horrible time.

"The Amish don't use land lines" - They use cell phones instead?  Whatever, I can sympathize.  My personal 'hotspot' is not the perfect panacea either.  I just checked a speed site and it was something like 450kps.  Don't get me wrong though, I love what I have.  It's dependable, it is usually as advertised and I'm happy.

Aarrggh!  I have had withdrawel pains for half a day.  My personal 'hot spot' would not connect to the internet.  Not knowing much about the inner workings of the little box or it's connection settings I tried everything I knew and everything troubleshooters knew to no avail.  While twiddling thumbs and watching local late news  I took it to the big room and took the battery out and let it rest for a bit.  Put it back together, came back and connected!!  I was getting ready to go in to the Verizon store in the morning and complain big time.  I feel better now..

Come to think of it...I had something similar yesterday. Found a Furby while sorting stuff. It had been in storage for probably 12-13 years.  Put batteries in it and, "it's dead Jim".  Our daughter, the original Furby adopter, said..."...just throw it away".  But I bought some brand new batteries and still nothing...till I stuck my finger in it's mouth and "it's alive...it's alive!!"

(It's a complicated toy. Stick a finger in it's mouth to wake it up. Or turn it upside down, stick your finger in it's mouth and press a reset button all at the same time to reset to default.  All sorts of complicated interactions to get it to speak, dance, talk...learn English.

Kind of an aside or stray from this particular thread but slightly connected:  My desktop died last spring, I messed with it a little but in the meantime acquired the laptop and quit messing with the desktop.  Well, this afternoon I connected cables and stuff required and finally got it cooking.  I have no wireless with the D/T so I'm on dialup as we speak updating the old thing.  Lawzee Me but I had forgotten how painful dialup was!  The experience has quelled any doubts I have about the $ I spend on the little 'hot spot'.  I might look around for a wireless card for this desktop .... maybe.  Mostly because the desktop is XP and I still prefer XP.

I don't know at this point.  I'll check around although I have no idea where you are going with this.  I've never had a router, believe that?
