Found the server recovery disk and got it to see the server on the network, it's now doing something, hopefully not wiping out everything.... No, I had data backed up but don't have everything backed up. We'll see.... |

Rats, had removed the disc to do some other stuff and it wanted it and died when I tried to swap it out. Back to square one.

Installing the WHS client connector FROM the server! That's some progress. |

Installing updates. This should take a while....the recovery disk is over a year old.

Finally finished. All the data was still there with the exception of my programs and their data. Reinstalled the software and am doing a database restore right now. I'd forgotten how much *junk* came installed, have had to delete a lot of stuff and McAfee is proving to be difficult to get rid of. |

It worked! Not much pain all things considered. I'm not at all displeased with the recovery process, worked pretty good. I was also lucky that I had a backup of my database as of 9/22 so I didn't even lose any data. |

Yeah, it was hit and miss there for a bit. If I'd lost data or the database it'd of been very, very ugly.

Yeah...it can get ugly to see a grown man cry...
Done that a few times myself...though not to the extent of having a server die.

Yup, I would have seriously cried. The data is spread out over four drives (3 external, 1 internal) and the transfer time alone would have been brutal.
