Speaking of local talent in another thread, this might interest Don as it's about a kid from his old stompin' ground Tyler and John Tyler High School (I can't recall your time frames however): Green Bay plays the Patriots tonight and GBs starting QB Aaron Rodgers is injured. A rookie, Matt Flynn is to be tonight's QB in a first game, never tossed a pass in an NFL game. He is a product of John Tyler then LSU. Should be interesting.

Ed Rendell (Gov., Pa.) says NFL a bunch of wussies for postponing the Sunday night game - http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/12/27/rendell-on-eagles-game-this-is-no-way-shape-or-form-a-blizzard/?partner=rss&emc=rss

The headline I saw about the postponement said something like, "Quick....call Gore....where's the warming..."

Haha - I've been watching parts and pieces of bowl games since before Christmas. Tons of 'em! Most are meaningless with a few goodies tossed in and some you'd never recognize their names. The ones remaining should be better. All are on ESPN.

BTW, congratz to ND for the win. Miami (FL) is no slouch. And speaking of Fl. teams those "no name" Florida teams are now making a name for themselves. U. of Cent. Fl. whipped Georgia today as did the U. of South Fl. beat Clemson. And a game I watched tonight was Fl. State vs. S. Carolina and FSU bested 'em. It was a good game and fun to watch.
(An aside - There is talk that Charlie Weiss is gonna leave Kansas City Chiefs to become the U. of Fla. offensive coordinator for their new coach Will Muschamp who came over from the U. of Texas. That coaching is a mobile occupation.

Happy New Year!!!
A bunch of crazy people kept me up... ... and well, me and my sweetie have new android phones, and I had to help her get it set up and all. We got the HTC Aria. Got mine for a buck on an upgrade. My Dell Axim died so this is what I wound up with to take it's place. |

Probably nothing new here for a dedicated football fan...but new stuff to me:
College Football Bowl Preview Gee...no Cotton Bowl today? Tsk tsk. Oh well. ND is not in it anyhow this year. (Sometimes I'm surprised, as much as the media fawns over them, that they haven't started an Irish Bowl. LOL |

It's bad enough when they quite calling them by their traditional name (Cotton Bowl called the TicketCity Bowl my butt) but man, they're really stretching this bowl thing thin. I expect to see a Rusty Nail Through Your Foot TY-D-Bowl.

That one had me ticked off too but I looked into it and the Ticket City Bowl is just one of those "made up" bowl games played in the Cotton Bowl but the actual Cotton Bowl still exists and will be played next Fri. w/Tex. A&M vs. LSU. (Oh yeah - it's the AT&T Cotton Bowl .... )

OIC! I just can't keep up with the bowl names any longer and why next Friday. Oh, wait, I know, same reason it's the AT&T. Bah humbug. |

Haha - I have a printout here of all the bowl games and it fills two full sheets! Remember when the bowl games had some meaning like Rose, Sugar, Orange, Cotton? Then massive inflation took off.

Yeah. It's like these stadiums and music centers and such. The "Hoosier Dome" became The Lucas Oil Stadium(?). And the Deer Creek Music Center, Nobelsville IN suddenly disappeared a few years back. Oh..no..it's still there...but is now the Verizon Music Center.
Yeah, I know...capitalism at work...pays the bills and all that. Still, the "Hoosier Dome" had a connection to the state of Indiana. And with all the stinking tax dollars poured into it, rightfully so IMHO. And even "Deer Creek" at least felt like something local...inclusive...for patrons. And names often give a good clue as to location and purpose. "Verizon Music Center"...what's up with that! It sounds like some place to go to buy ring-tones or pay your telephone bill. |

I just had a thought - The Ticket City Bowl was probably dreamed up by Texas Tech and Northwestern. I think that's the only way those two coulld get into a bowl game. Maybe next year we can organize the BobDonKarlRandy Tomato Bowl and play it here in our old rock fort like high school field really named the Tomato Bowl.

Cool. The Tomato Bowl. Instead of shirts and skins, maybe Reds and Greens?
