This sounds cool...maybe better than cool.  I'm always hitting "cap lock" by mistake....

The remap thing does remap lots of things, but not mouse clicks...only keyboard functions. At least I've killed caps lock button. (Though if I was smart perhaps turning it into a "shift" would be better since reaching for shift is when I usually hit caps lock.)

There is a hack to simulate a middle click (both left and right pressed at the same time):

Helpful Tip: Middle-Click on a Touchpad Laptop Mouse

It doesn't install permanent.  Works until a reboot and then have to click on the .exe again to have it working.  I've never been a big fan of hitting both at the same time.  I've read that some folks have installed the Synaptics drivers instead...even though they have an Alps touchpad (like me). Synaptics has much better options than Alps...like setting up a tap zone for middle click.

But from what I've read, it requires installing the Syanptics stuff, then manually replacing one or more of the Synaptics driver files with default Alps ones.  Sounds more trouble than it might be worth.

Karl - You can have any application start on boot by putting a shortcut to it in your Startup folder.  It should be located under the Start Menu folder, under the Programs folder.

Didn't think of that. Sigh. (Been burning the brain cells at both ends I quess. LOL)

I think I've found a simple solution.  There is that right click context menu option...open in background tab. Though not as handy as having "background" as a default action. (And half the time I click on the wrong option.)

I do find middle clicking very awkward...having to hold both left and right buttons down at the same time while also maneuvering the cursor.

I also looked up opera:config but haven't found a hack there.

However, if I can remember and be coordinated enough to hit ctrl-shift while clicking a link...that opens in a new background tab.  Sometimes I manage. Sometimes, by habit, I hit ctrl-W instead. LOL.

Sounds liked you've learned enough options to insure confusion.  LOL
