What do you guys think, does this look like a pretty good laptop to run Vista with MS Office on? She's going to be bummed out if it's sluggish. She wants to be able to play DVDs on it as well.

I have absolutely no experience with laptops Randy so I'll reserve comment. I'll leave that to the experts.

Looks like it might work well. Would be better if you could get it with XP...

Sure wish it had the XP option but I figure we'll buy it later if need be.

Oh yeah I forgot to tell everyone the good news, our youngest daughter graduated high school Thursday with honors. I guess that got overshadowed today with it being her birthday.

Yes. Congrats and Congrats: For graduation and a birthday.
Specs on the laptop look good. So did a review at a notebook review site. One that I've looked at wishfully is an HP 6xxx series. I've heard a lot of good things. And our youngsters girlfriend got one for Christmas from Best Buy; loves it. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8525768&type=product&id=1186007267495 Links below "should" go to HP site for "configure your own". 6700Z (AMD Version) 6700T (Intel Version) |

FWIW: Thought I'd lost the link this afternoon but it was just hiding. (Review of the laptop you mentioned. I was reading the review when the afternoon sandman nap hit hard.)

Another FWIW:
I've heard rumors that some OEM's will provide a "recovery disk set" for downgrading to XP...if you ask them specifically for it. (At a cost of course.) I'm not sure about Toshiba. I thought of this because of a different laptop that was on sale many months ago. A really hot deal; Acer...I "think", but not sure. The price was so good I thought of getting it and downgrading it to XP. But "googled" it first...and was very glad I did. Apparently the hardware...MOBO...had been built to match Vista requirements. Switching to XP was turning into a challenge (nightmare) for folks who were trying to do so. |

ROFL One more post. I knew I'd seen this but couldn't find it yesterday. This morning the ad popped back up on my Yahoo home page.
Another Toshiba from Tiger Direct...Memorial Day Sale $599.00 Newegg also has it for the same price I think. |

Thanks everyone and Karl thanks for the laptop links.
Well the laptop's already ordered. I sure hope we can downgrade to XP if needed better yet I hope it just works. She's no gamer and mostly just does iTunes and web page stuff. |

You'll have to keep us posted how it goes and what you think of Toshiba. I love mine...though it would be great to upgrade it to a dual core and better video. But for what I use it mostly for...it does fine.
Hope Vista works out. |

I'm looking forward to seeing how well things run. It was the only laptop I saw in the price range that had 3 gigs of ram.

Any "reviews" yet of either the laptop and/or OS?

It seems to be running rather well. Running AVG and Defender. Plays DVDs, works well with iTunes and the iPod. Firefox is what she uses for her browser. It also has a very nice screen saver she enjoys very much that uses the pics in a designated folder. XP has that but not as nicely done as in Vista. No complaints of slowness. All seems to be going well.
