Try 10 OSes You've Never Heard Of Fodder for the virtual machine. I've used 3 of them and I use FreeDOS regularly as a virtual machine. The other two are ReactOS and Minix which I have a long history with (going back to when it was a command line OS). Tanenbaum's book is a classic. |

I can't see going back to the Amiga or Atari but KolibriOS looks interesting if for no other reason than writing a modern OS in assembler is just mind boggling.

Looks interesting. ReactOS rings a bell...but not loud enough for me to figure out why.

It reminded me that there are a lot of things out there I want to play around with. I'd totally forgotten about OpenVMS even though it wasn't listed. I've never used VMS, always kind of lusted after a VAX back in the day, think I'm going to put it on my list. |

Just looked at screenshots at the ReactOS web site. Boy. Sure rings a bell...but too softly. So it goes.

It wasn't bad, I wasn't all that high on it but it wasn't bad.

I believe we talked about it when it was a bit rougher a long time ago. Might be worth hanging onto some of those old Win95/98 games to try on it.

There is a new Chinese OS out. Read it in a printed computer magazine...probably PC World.
Found it here...screenshots and links. Ubuntu made to look like XP. Chinese Pirates Hacked Ubuntu to Look Like Windows XP |

Hehe, I'm not sure that's a Good Thing. I was disappointed to find that OpenVMS appears to be commercial. I though it had gone open source. |

That's been out a while. I think the Chinese did that because MS had
caught on to the pirated stuff and they were not getting the updates.
VirtualBox seems to be pretty good. It's cross platform. |

VB looks like. I like VPC because with the version of Win 7 I have it included a copy of XP. Not that I've done more than boot it up once but I know it's there. |
