I am in the process of installing 7 almost for real. Still not my main box that I use full time but my secondary box that I retired when I got the new one.

This morning I decided to hook up some old speakers figuring I could use it as a music box when I was hooked up to VPN (which doesn't allow me to do much on my local network and monitors what sites I visit, etc.) and doggone if it wasn't broken big time; there were all kinds of sound driver issues and after two hours I figured they weren't going to be fixed. I can't blame XP, I bet I removed a dozen offball programs that had all sorts of weird codecs and most of them were probably trash; I didn't even remember what they did for sure.

So it's a clean install on a machine that'll get hit pretty hard with some video and audio stuff, it'll be interesting if nothing else.

And by gosh the sound better work after all of this....

It went just fine, have the apps I wanted on it installed and running just fine, network shares are working and I even have sound.

I did go with AVG on this, first time I've used it in a long time, curious to see how it performs, pretty good buzz on the current versions.

Good to know.  AVG had a short spell of hogging resources on the PCs around here, except for one.

Don - Did you use the backup app to make an image of your system?

Not yet. So far I've been depending entirely on the WHS backup service and otherwise I'm kinda skinny on storage lately having blown all my spare on backups of the backups on the server (whew!).

Yeah. I was hoping to find a cheap 1 or 1.5TB external but haven't seen anything that looked all that good, guess I'll have to wait until the end of year sales....

Maybe coming up to Christmas there might be some pretty good offers.  I'm just hoping that we don't see many PC related companies disappear after Christmas.

I'm thinking the same. Drive prices have certainly come down but not to the blow out level I had been looking for.

Maybe another month....

So what's "cheap" for a 1.5T for you?  I've seen them for around $110 at several places. Usually (ROFL)...Seagate.  But I think Newegg has WD and Samsung both around that price for a gig and a half.

Finally:
Newegg.com - SAMSUNG EcoGreen F2 HD154UI 1.5TB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

("Finally" as in the page finally finished loading after several minutes.  But that's another story...LOL)

$110 for an external with a GOOD hard drive and not the Seagate or WD green would be a great deal for a 1.5 and maybe $90 for a 1Tb.

External?  Maybe the drive by itself, but I don't know about an external for that price.  Maybe Santa will have some left over after Christmas that he'll want to unload real fast....

I've seen a couple, the Iomega for one, for $90 but didn't like the included hard drive.
