Hi,
What Dell model?
This is the Dell support page:
http://support.dell.com/

If you click on the "I'm looking for drivers and downloads" it brings up this page:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen
It's pretty self-explanatory.

On the bottom of your Dell should be a service tag number. That's the easiest...enter it after clicking on "enter a tag" or click on "find my service tag".

Somewhere..they have a Dell Software Utility. It installs, scans and updates.  If I can find it. Might have to crank up our old dell.

You could try the Dell website to locate your drivers.  You would need to know the model of the computer, for example my computer is a Dell Dimension E521, or preferably the service tag number.

Here is the link to the website:

Okay I got that far It is a dimension e510.  The problem I have now is that I cannot get on the net on that machine to download the drivers.  Is there a way I can make a cd of them?  I tried to purchase one, but couldn't find it anywhere.  I got to the drivers, I got to the list that tells you the order to install them, now Im stuck again.  Please help?

Go to the Dell site, wade through their process to select your computer and once there click on, for instance, the network section to expand it. To download a file click on the download button and save it to a location that you'll be able to find later on. I don't keep much stuff on my desktop so I just save it there but you can put it anywhere that'll be easy to find.

After it is downloaded move it to a CD and then burn the CD or, even easier, copy it to a USB thumb drive and then use that to move it to the Dell. A CD will work just as well however, it's just a bit slower.

Okay... Lets try this one.  I have all of the drivers installed except the "ethernet controller".  I could not figure out how to unzip the network file, it did not burn like the other ones.  It was way bigger and I am not sure how to run it.  It saved as a cabinet file, so when I open it it gives me many other options, I tried to run setup, but it just tells me how to download from the website.  Please Help!?!  Thanks!  Confused

A CAB file is just like a ZIP file, CAB is just Microsoft's format for a compressed folder.

When you click on it it should open in an explorer window just like you were opening any other folder. What kind of options are you seeing?

When you have that folder open click F5 and search for setup.exe. If that turns up that's the file you'd want to run or you can go to control panel, select add hardware, next, yes, I have already connected the hardware, next and scroll down and select "Add a new hardware device".

Select "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list", select network adapters and then "have disk" and point to the CD.

You may have to point to several folders on the CD with the driver folders on it but when you hit the right one you should be able to go from there.

PS - Oh, it's most likely the "Dell" folder but that's just an educated guess.

Let me know the filename of the CAB file and I'll see if I can track it down and take a look.

Humm, I'm not seeing any folders inside the files by that name that I'm finding. What is the size of the INPENUXP.CAB file you have?

Cool. That's the one I have but it only has html and graphics files that are installation instructions. Here's the install info it contains:

From www.support.dell.com, locate and download the "Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection" driver.
Follow the onscreen instructions to copy the driver to your local drive. Accept the default install path. The driver will auto install. NOTE: If you are unable to install the drivers using the steps above, run setup.exe from the <driver release number e.g. R78364>\WinXP directory.

Updating the Drivers
From the Control Panel, double-click the System icon, select the Hardware tab, and click the Device Manager button.
Double-click Network Adapters and right-click the Intel adapter listing to display its menu.
Click the Properties menu option.
In the Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab and click Update Driver. The Hardware Update Wizard appears.
Click Install from a list or specific location, then click Next.
Specify the location of the newer file, then click Next.
Click Finish.

So it'd seem that it wants the "Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection" files from Dell.
