Enjoyed the ERB books and John Carter in particular but I remain skeptical after seeing how they managed to butcher Conan.

I take it from the comments that you either love or hate this and I fall into the former camp. Quite a pleasant surprise. |

First I remember hearing of John Carter before. Didn't realize he was an Edgar Rice Burroughs character until you posted "ERB". Many of the movies we've enjoyed lately are pulling from older novels and comic books for inspiration.
When in my teen years the books I read were not that many but were by Heinlein, Asimov and the like, so I missed out on ERB's writing. |

I enjoyed the Pellucidar and moon book as well but frankly they were all pretty much the same. Didn't make much difference to my pre-teen imagination but there ya go.

It's different and I have enjoyed just about everything I've ever seen Ewen McGregor in.

The Eagle. Watched it last night and was surprised. Pleasantly. I was prepared to be either not like it or be disappointed. It actually did neither and I really enjoyed it. Whomever said it was about "honor" hit the nail on the head. And it was interesting, I thought, that even though the two main characters opposed each other on a personal level, they held to the same sense of a higher code of 'honor'. Kinda made me wonder if that was a subtle did against some folks today, like our polyticks.

Glad you enjoyed that one too. One good flick in my opinion. I came away with the same take, but didn't think about it sending a subtle message, might just be the case.

Killer Elite was a pretty good movie. Okay plot but the fight scenes with Jason Statham were just excellent as they usually are. With the exception of The Mechanic I've always enjoyed his tough guy roles. Absolutely a guy movie. |

I've watched several Steven Seagal movies lately. Not Academy Award but pretty good action adventure movies. I didn't know him before but he was evidently a big name in that genre especially in the 90s. Still cranking them out I think. Tonight's was The Ultimate Game if I am remenbering the title right. Strong man, karate and weapons expert, capable of taking on all comers.

Under Siege is one of our semi-go to movies. Kinda a lower level Die Hard if you will. Tommy Lee Jones is just insane in it, very funny. I think it was Bob that mentioned We Are Marshall a long while ago, finally watched it and it's great, very, very inspiring. We always enjoyed one we've previously seen; Gridiron Gang. Dunno what it is about sport movies, almost always like them. |

We watched "Next" most recently. Pretty good for a simple scify see in the future kinda movie. Nothing to write home about. Nicolas Cage does a good job pulling off odd scify roles.

Good flicks. Segal always struck me as....not sure of the right word...strange...or out of place. He just didn't look the part of a tough martial arts dude. Like he was moving in slow motion...probably due to his bulk.

Watched Bone Collector tonight. A little gory gripping and pretty good. The technology they used in '99 was pretty advanced for the time.

I've seen that two or three times. Not quite sure why...once should have been enough. A good flick.

We watched Contagion tonight. Just finished. A lot different than what we expected. I'd give it an "OK". More like a documentary of an possible event than a Hollywood killer virus thriller.
