Make Way For Tomorrow sounds like a great one.

Don - That's the first mushy one I remember you posting, and in spite of not seeing a single weapon brandished in it.    hmm...   Were there some scenes of some good cooking?

Haha Randy - I kind of had the same thought.  I was thinking I was the only one of this group that watched or liked sentimental/just drama type movies.  I really like Turner Classics and I think it's Fox Movie Channel because if you can find a watcher on either of those they are commercial free.  AMC sometimes has some goodies but they are double in length because of commercials.

Nah, I like mushy ones as long as they're good. Just a couple of weeks ago it was Where The Red Fern Grows. Humm, it might have have a shotgun or two but it's a good mushy one.

On a scale of 1 to 10...maybe a 3. Better than Shutter Island! (A grade "B" movie...if you like Zeus and stuff like that.)

Interesting, hadn't previously heard of it. Lately a 3 sounds like it'd be a step up from what we've been watching.

With the exception of last night; It Happened One Night. Again DVR'ed from TCM. My favorite of all the "screwball" comedies from the 30s.

BTW, picked up some interesting trivia at the link. Apparently Gable was sent to work on this film by his contract studio as "punishment" and neither he nor Colbert liked the script. The latter declared it the "the worst film she ever did". Go figure.

Also some for the first time film techniques were employed by Capra including a movable camera crane.

Fun and interesting stuff about a really fun movie.

I watched an old Bronson film last night ... Death Wish.  Knocking off punks and losers of the 60s-70s right and left.  Good for the soul type movie.

Ah yes, a very good one if not a wee bit dated plus I keep wanting him to punch the son-in-law is the mouth. Revenge movies are always fun for me.

Also notable for an early appearance by Jeff Goldblum as one of the punks.

Yeah!  Namby-pamby cheek turner!  I missed JGs appearance, but then punks didn't last long.

Ok, this is evidently Deathwish week or Charles Bronson week on AMC or whichever channel I was watching and my vengence side has almost reached full with Deathwish II.  I'll never get tired of punks gettin' snuffed though.  Gee, were things in the big cities really that bad back in the 70s and 80s?  I've been confined to small town USA since the early 70s and maybe I wasn't paying attention.  (BTW Karl, last week was Dirty Harry week)

Probably not as bad as depicted in the movie but I think NYC went through a pretty bad patch in the 70s.

Dunno. Some individual areas perhaps of different cities.  Of course, I never thought any public schools were as bad as some movies showed...till watching some documentaries.

Clash of The Titans
OK...not a great epic...but when you have scorpions big enough to put my house on...what's not to like by Zeus! A fun movie I thought.

My watch of the night and one I wholeheartedly recommend - Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story.  No car chases or crashes and just a drama but it will mist your eyes I almost guarantee and almost from the beginning. Awesome!
An amazing story of deprivation, determination, and success.  Cuba Gooding and just awesome IMO.  A demonstration of the amazing abilities of a human being, even in adversity. My words but written in another application the reason for the funky font.
Of course this is just my opinion.  Smile

Re: Clash I thought the best part was when he elected not to bring along that @#^&* owl that they had in the original. Man that thing was irritating.

Ah. Glad you mentioned that as I'd forgotten about it. I wondered what the significance was.

LOL  You did....more or less.  I'll check it out. My girls aren't that fond of my picks...but so far I can't seem to get them to come up with ideas.

Heh heh - I was really referring to my tendancy to get a little windy, pompous, and wordy sometime when it's not needed at all. "Less is more" and I know that and should remember that.
