The Book of Eli.

Thank goodness we didn't go to the theater to see it. Individual actors did a good job, but the movie overall was just plain bad.  And dark. Dark plot. A lot seemed shot in "duo-tone". Yuck. A relative-in-law lent us their borrowed disk to watch, so at least it was a free watch.

Yeah, I didn't pick up on that one either.  Glad I didn't waste any money on it.

I'm not a fan of Apocalypse type films.  We have enough troubles in real life.

I agree, it wasn't very good. Not much in my last batch of new ones. Unthinkable has promise but an unsatisfying ending, still something to think about. BTW, I don't know how I could have done the ending differently.

Samuel L. Jackson.  Ouch. Not one of my favorite actors...on or off screen.

The relative-in-law picked up The Book of Eli tonight and asked how I liked it. I told him. At least now I know I'm not a complete bonehead and wasn't imagining things.  He thought I meant the quality of the DVD was "horrible".  "Yeah...right at the start you can see some people standing up and walking around.  And the lower left of the screen was always blurry."  Somebody recorded the movie as it was playing in a theater.  Bah.

I thought the thing looked really poor compared to the online and TV previews.

Makes a Netflix subscription sound pretty worth the while.

Sometimes it pays to have a poor memory. At least I get my monies worth out of Netflix.  I watched We Were Soldiers this evening.  It didn't take long before I realized that I'd watched it sometime before.  But I couldn't remember enough details so I watched it again.  A good flick...but not one that I'd really want to watch too often.

I've done that more than once myself Karl.  But as you say, an advantage of a failing memory - enjoyable all over again.  I 'm watching a 2 disc series Victoria and Albert.  I like it altho I was hesitant to put that in my queue. I won't recommend it one way or the other here.  A dramatized historical bio of Queen Victoria from her teenaged days onward and her relationship with Prince Albert.  One thing it has done for me is correct my imagination of Queen Victoria.  I always saw her as the dowdy old Victorian lady like the stereotype of her is usually shown.  Not so as she was once young also and became Queen at 18.  A lot of behind the scenes political and diplomatic shenannigans and goings on makes it pretty interesting.

Twilight Saga: New Moon
With luck, The Dark Knight (my second Netflix flick) will be much better.  Our youngun is a Twilight fan and hadn't seen New Moon yet.  So now we have.  She didn't like the way the characters portrayed those in the book.  As for me...slow moving and the main character I thought came across as a selfish self-centered manipulating gal.

I watched State of Play tonight.  Another Russel Crowe film with Ben Affleck and Helen Mirren.  A political intrique that might please all of you as it involves corruption, a little politician/romantic hanky panky ala I've lost count of the instances, and some hard core conspiracy thoughts.

Watched G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.  I enjoyed it.  Not the best acting or plot, just a plain old "good guys" beat the "bad guys" movie, like a Steven Seagal kinda movie.

I took the youngun to the el'cheapo movie theater tonight to see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1325004/ the third movie in the Twilight series. It was a lot better than the DVD of the second one we watched last night. Probably because it was more fights (or getting ready for fights) and less focus on the two main characters. (I still think the main gal character is a self-centered, shallow, "all about me" type.)

But....there were some previews that looked interesting...Harry Potter. The previews looked good. BUT....I can't believe that they say the ending is soooo big...that they had to make it into two movies. Yes...two movies...one to be released in December, and the last next July...2011.

Another preview looked hilarious....due out in October. Red  with Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Mary Louise Parker, John Malkovich and others.  I laughed my butt off. Retired CIA folks (old!!) who get back together and kick some butt.

Been watching older movies. Firstly Ghost Busters is a hoot, one of my favorite Hope movies. Plus it has this clip.

Not as funny but still a hoot is "The Long, Long Trailer".

Both worth a watch.

That's a knee slapper for sure. I knew it was coming so I gave Cassandra a heads up.

I had to replay it.

Good thing Hope isn't alive today....he'd be heading towards a re-ed camp. LOL

That Twilight Saga series that I've mentioned a couple of times. Geeze!! Can't believe some people.

Our daughter came home from work yesterday.  An older co-worker (anybody late twenties and older) saw the latest in the series....three or four times over the 4th Weekend.  (First at a drive in where they showed all three releases...in order.  Then she went to a regular theater 2 or 3 times.)

Wow!  I can't think of a movie I'd do that. Not because there haven't been any that I enjoy that much....but I'm too cheap...and I can't watch a theater show with popcorn, pop and a bag of plain M&M's; I'd OD for sure. LOL

I saw Star Wars in a theater twice but the 2nd time because I went with someone that hadn't seen it.

Otherwise I can't think of anything I've seen in the theater twice.

I've heard of those folks but same here, I don't think I've ever repeated a movie in a theater.
