The SSD Anthology: Understanding SSDs and New Drives from OCZ

What a great job this guy did, really put some work into it and it shows plus it's well written.

I did get an email this last week (I think it was this last week, now I'm not sure) with the OZC drive on sale. I was tempted but thankfully it was still outside of my price range.

Whew. And really long. LOL Usually I don't make it through one this long, but it was interesting and written well. (And easy enough to understand.)

Might wait awhile longer....

It was a long one but well worth it, especially hanging in there until the details of the OZC story. Kinda interesting that a company would actually work towards making a product that didnt' suck.

Kinda makes ya wonder about other products that have had less than stellar performance.

Sure glad I didn't jump on the SSD bandwagon when it first came out.

I can't remember all the times I've ended up face down in the mud with arrows in my back but it's been a lot. No fun being on the bleeding edge.

The only time I can remember getting so miffed that I wrote the company and demanded my money back was a CD controller and drive for the MCA bus.

It just didn't work and never could have but they sold it anyway. I did eventually get my money back.

Oh, and another time it was a motherboard. They took it back but I finally had to publically embarass them at their booth at Comdex to get my money back.

Just finally hit me why they call it the "bleeding" edge.

Finally read it all.  What a good read!

I thought this was a great quote considering the other thread on Belarc: "Anyone who has built a computer before knows the glory of a freshly installed system; everything just pops up on your screen. Applications, windows, everything - the system is just snappy.

Of course once you start installing more applications and have more things running in the background, your system stops being so snappy and you tend to just be thankful when it doesn’t crash."

Plans so far: Accept a gift of an Intel X25-M, X25-E or OCZ Vertex.

I'm convenced that waiting a while before buying anything with one of these drives is better for me since I tend to keep a computer 'til all that is left to do with it is to pay someone to tow it off.

Yeah, I remember that section.

2 years from now SSD will be so much better (and cheaper) we will hardly reconize it as being the same technology.

They're getting pretty cheap....for a primary boot/system drive a 74Mb works just fine and they're usually south of $80.

I dunno, when you see the difference in boot and application load times it sure is tempting.....

Oh, here's a great video of application load times.

Pretty much instant access....

I probably would pay more, depending on the size of the drive and total dollar price.....depending on long term performance. Right now that would be my major concern.  I'd love to have one in a laptop...but not if after a few months or even years performance goes to heck while they are still working out the bugs...
