As far as I can tell....if one is gong to go with Win8...might as well go all the way and bite into an Apple! 

Maybe it's OK on a lot of the portables (smart phones and tablets) but just can't see it on a lap or desk top.  (Just read an article someplace that Asus is hedging their bets by not picking either/or between smartphones and tablets....apparently investing heavy in both.  Although it just occurred to me right now that I didn't know Asus was into smartphones.)

It was the domain controller issue. I could have managed it were I to switch everything at once but I need/want to run a split network for a while and I couldn't get there, as far as I could figure out, with 2012.

Plus I sure didn't like the Win 8 interface, just stupid and I was in no mood to relearn since as soon as it's set up I'll never mess with it much.

Ouch.  Yep...a silver lining even if it's stretching it. Our new furnace at the old house has those blinking code LEDs. Great. NOT!  Didn't mean squat to me and I wouldn't have been able to find the problem anyhow.  (Kinda the same thing...a fuse was blown.  But it still took an A/C furnace fellow to find why it kept blowing.)

Oh...I keep forgetting to post something cute.  Our younguns new (HeeHee) car..the '94 Century...the "check engine light" keeps coming on.  The folks we bought it off of mentioned it and their mechanic told us the same thing as ours: ignore it. Unless you want to sink hundreds upon hundreds on all that emission control crap.  I didn't realize till we drove it last week that they found a way to fix that light: black duct tape. ROFL

Wow...that writer...can't believe the prices.  I've been debating about upgrading one last time on a desktop. I still like to use one sometimes for heavy duty stuff (photos, lots of storage, a little video editing and quite frankly...business stuff (taxes, online shopping, insurance, etal).  Kinda been holding off for budget and hardware reasons.  And hardware is also the final reason I've held off on some tempting laptops...waiting for USB3 to catch up.

It does make one wonder where our glorious leader was that night.  Did he hang a "do not disturb sign" on his bedroom door..Wink Wink       Or did the powers-that-be know it was going to be messy and they protected BHO by having him stay away "someplace" so they could honestly say they didn't know exactly where he was?  Or maybe he was out behind the White House sneaking a smoke..

Oh year, far better, no need to even install a connector to use it as a simple file server, just sits out there as a box with files on it.

And to get around the stupid degrade in 2011 that limits dynamic storage I just spanned 3 drives and put the shared folders there. Worked perfectly.
