Nothing worse on clothes than bleach splatter. Unless it's banana tree sap (and there's a LOT of it). It turns rust red and will NOT come out.

My worse enemy moment came Sunday when I was putting a new blade on a saw and spent 20 minutes trying to get the retaining nut to start threading before remembering it's one of those "backwards" arrangements where it's lefty tighty.

What a dope.

I recycle my to go coffee cups as well and my "roadie" on the way to the big city Saturday morning is one of the small pleasures of life.

For years I had my trashcan on the left side of the desk and the tower on the right hand side of the desk.

For reasons I don't understand when we moved 2 years ago I swapped them.

Two years of trying to power up the trash can and dropping trash on the tower. I finally retrained myself.

When I had to do some work on the tower a couple of weeks ago I thought why did I shove the tower on the left side? It's work just fine on the right side and will give me more access to boot so I made the switch.

So for the last couple of weeks I've been trying to boot the trash can. You get it.

But yesterday I had to wonder why net copies were running so slow. I checked network performance and it only indicated a 100Mpbs connection. Nah, this is a gigabit NIC.

Looked at network card properties and they all looked fine.

Finally had an ah ha moment and checked the connection on the back of the machine.

Yep, the cable was only partially inserted. I'm surprised it worked at all.

Gotta go, did some updates and I've gotta reboot the trash can.

Ya figure those people are on SS disability? I can't imagine any job they could hold.

I think this should really go in Karl's new Insanity thread but I didn't wanna hog that so I'll put it here since these are all self inflicted.

Speaking of being my own worst enemy on a personal basis noticed water in the water heater drip pan. Yep, it was leaking big time.

I didn't think a thing about warranty but called a plumber I'd never used and he suggested I check with AO Smith and see if it was still covered. It had never been put in service by the prior owners so they had to use the manufacture date and it was in warranty....for another two months.

They gave me the name of a local supplier, called them, they said bring in the tag from the heater and they'd....give me a brand new hot water heater.

I did, they did and the new one is installed.

It would have been VERY easy for the plumber to sell me a new one, charge me the disposal fee, take the old one and get a new one and I would have never been the wiser.

And kudos to AO Smith, no prorate or anything, just an even exchange. Grated a hot water heater should last for longer than 5 years but still.

Whew.

Yep, that was a big hit for them, it could well bring them down.

I thought the first (and only) comment when I read it was interesting about contractors being used to do their coding...just code, code, code and let quality assurance find the bugs.

I've found that to be very much the case in many programs over the last 10 years. Just glaring errors that anyone coding should have caught with the first run but nooooo, it's all about lines of code, no matter the quality.

No mulligans on stock transactions....

Not anything that would effect a consumer, looks like this was entirely house trades.

Might as well put this here but I mentioned your location to one of our guests yesterday and he said he'd been to Berne and that he got attacked by a lion there (!?!). I'm not positive on the time but I'm guessing at least several decades ago at some restaurant there. Any memory of that?

Have an old Seagate external USB drive that's so small that it's not really useful any longer but I figured hey, let's just throw another drive in it, have a bunch of those laying around.

A real puzzler how it was put together, not even a screw visible and sometimes moving that plastic around doesn't turn out so well.

But finally I did without breaking anything.

Then remove 12 screws before getting to the meat of it.

It wasn't beef, it was pork. That is an IDE interface and all my spares are SATA.

I did get it back together and it actually works but an hour down the tubes.

Yet another growth opportunity.

I'll go you one better...I was refilling a ink cartridge and the needle pierced the plastic and jabbed my thumb.  

I now have a permanent tattoo.

Hehe, one reason why I never, ever throw away memory when I take an old box out of service. Once I was able to sell some memory that was no longer being made and got a pretty good price for it.

I dunno, it might have been longer for me but I'll not work too hard at trying to figure out how long it was, wouldn't want to take that away from you (grin).

Indeed the old PC3200 memory is a lot more expensive than the memory for my newer boxes.

Breaking a few eggs into a bowl for breakfast. Crack the egg open, toss the innards into the sink and throw the shell into the bowl.

But I did it very, very, well.
