SIW (System Information for Windows)
In trying to find ways to troubleshoot and just get a handle on "strange" PCs I've looked at dozens of "system information" programs and nothing comes close to SIW.
System Information for Windows (SIW) is a System Information tool that gathers detailed information about Windows systems properties and settings. A utility that includes detailed specs for Motherboard, BIOS, CPU, Devices, Memory, Video, Drives, Ports, Printers. It displays information about Operating System, Installed Programs, Processes, Services, Product Key (CD key), Serial Numbers (indispensible when needing to re-install software and the user has lost the key code), Users, Open Files, System uptime, Users, Network, Network Shares, and more, as well as real-time monitors for CPU, Memory, Page File usage and network traffic.
SIW also displays currently active network connections, Passwords hidden behind asterisks, installed codecs, and more.
SIW can create a report file in CVX, HTML, TXT or XML and is able to run in batch mode for asset inventory tracking, computer inventory (hardware and software), PC auditing and software license compliance management.
SIW is a standalone tool that does not require installation so you can put it on a CD or a USB flash drive and run it without going through an install process. It can even be run from a domain login script.
SIW runs on all versions of Windows from 98 through all versions of Vista as well as Tablet PC.
If you ever need a tool to help troubleshoot/demystify "strange" computers, create a software and hardware inventory or manage license compliance this is it.
